Homestead-Miami Speedway, where champions are crowned. This is the third year in a row I was covering the NASCAR Championship race. This time for NBC Sports, It was a little different than covering the race for an editorial client. The images were going to be used across social media to share images to fans during the race weekend. It allowed me to have a little more creative freedom as to what I photographed.

NASCAR: Budweiser Duel 2

The Budweiser Duels are two races that set the field for the Daytona 500. The place to finished along with time and speed helps NASCAR make the starting grid.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the first Duel and Jimmy Johnson won the second.

Tonight is the Camping World Truck Race.

After covering NASCAR Media day inside a stuffy room with hundreds of people, it was very nice to get out into the Florida sunshine and shoot some NASCAR Practice. The photos below are combined Sprint Unlimited Practice and Daytona 500 practice from Friday night and Saturday.

NASCAR: Media Day

I am currently sitting on a patio in downtown Daytona Beach where it’s 65 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Sorry, friends and family stuck in the cold. I am down here for 14 days to cover my 6th Daytona 500. The Daytona 500 is the Super Bowl of NASCAR, the biggest race of the year where everyone is watching. I am very fortunate enough to work with another great crew from USA Today.

Here are my favorite images from media day.

NASCAR: Ford Ecoboost 400

While Toledo and the rest of the midwest is getting blasted with snow I was in sunny Florida shooting the 2014 NASCAR Championships at Homestead-Miami Speedway. With the new chase format, which is similar to a NCAA Basketball bracket which NASCAR implemented this year made the drama that more interesting.

Friday night was the Camping World Truck Championship where Matt Crafton took home the trophy for the second straight year.

Saturday night was the Nationwide Championship which was clinched by Chase Elliott in Phoenix last weekend. In my personal opinion, I don’t see the point of racing for the championship when a driver has already clinched, but what do I know?

Sunday afternoon was the Sprint Cup Championship where, Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman, Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano would a battle it out to see who would raise the trophy at the end of the night.

The weekend was filled with laughs, beautiful sunsets and hanging out with old friends. Enjoy the photos from the weekend.

NASCAR: Pure Michigan 400

After getting home at 3am from the Jets vs Bengals game I arrived at Michigan International Speedway at 10am to get ready to shoot the Pure Michigan 400. Michigan is quickly becoming one of my least favorite  tracks, the garages are awful, the racing is single file for most of the race and it’s in the middle of nowhere in Michigan.

In the above photo Jeff Gordon was giving a stuffed cheetah because he recorded the fastest time at Michigan International Speedway beating Kevin Harvick’s record in June.

NASCAR: The Sprint Unlimited

Today was the busiest day so far at the track. I arrived at 8:30am and I left at 11:30pm. It was chucked full of practices and racing. I started with the Daytona 500 practice that lasted for a few hours then I shot the Arca race later in the day then the Sprint Unlimited at night. Easy event made for some awesome photos, so enjoy!

NASCAR: Daytona 500-Features

Greetings from Daytona Beach, Florida home of the Daytona 500 and also my home for the next 18 days. The Daytona 500 is the Super Bowl of NASCAR, two weeks of events and racing leading up to the biggest NASCAR race of the year. It’s especially important each year because drivers change teams and also get new sponsors so it takes a little bit of time to get accommodated to.

Since today was an off day, I headed to the track to pick up credentials, mark spots in the media room knock out some features.

Tomorrow is Daytona 500 Media Day which is just as big as the Super Bowl Media Day.
