NASCAR: Food City 500

 

Bristol Motor Speedway is known as the fastest half mile on the NASCAR Circuit. It’s one of my favorite tracks, it’s small, loud and holds 160,000 people. Unlike most NASCAR tracks the teams work in a garage area, but at Bristol their cars are line up along pit lane working out in the open. After a few rain delays they finally raced at night, which it my favorite place to night race. Enjoy the photos.

After covering the New England Patriots vs Detroit Lions game the night before, I had an early wake up call to jump in the car and drive to Bristol, TN for Bristol Night Race. Bristol is an awesome track because super small so it’s easy to get around, it’s super loud and it causes all of the drivers to get a high temper. Let’s get on with the photos.

Following the Philadelphia Eagles at Cleveland Browns game on Friday night I had to be in Bristol for the IRWIN Tools Night Race in Bristol, TN which started at 8:00pm Saturday night. After getting 5 hours of sleep on my buddies couch I woke up at 6am and was on the road, still half asleep to make the 6 hour drive from Cleveland to Bristol.

Thankfully I have Sirius radio in my car to help pass the time! After 346 miles and only one stop for gas and to use the restroom I was in Bristol. A quick stop at the hotel to shower and change and  I was off to lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings. After passing a few hours there I was off to the track.

I spent Father’s Day in Bristol, TN covering the Thunder Valley Nationals with fellow photographer Mark Rebilias. The Bristol area will always have a special place in my heart. When I was playing football at the University of Toledo, I used to spend the summer months in Abingdon, VA. Abingdon is just down the road from Bristol and it was there that my kicking coach, Doug Blevins, and I worked on my technique. The southern hospitality and food got me hooked!
