Actual Coffee

Actual Coffee

Back in February of 2012, I was introduced to Lance Roper, owner of Actual Coffee. Since meeting Lance I have had a unique opportunity to learn way more then I should ever know about coffee and been able to experience the process of roasting a coffee bean.

When I first met Lance, he was running a Kickstarter Campaign to raise $15,000 to purchase a new coffee roaster to be able to roast more beans with a quicker roasting time. Lance was 100% successful at raising the funds getting $16,000 to purchase the new roaster.

So over the last year or so Lance has taught me that Starbucks is the worst coffee ever, and I will have to agree with him. It tastes very burnt! Also when you hold coffee beans in your hand they should never leave an oily residue and the most important part of roasting the perfect cup of coffee it should take 2 minutes at 45 seconds for a 12oz cup. There has been alot of other things I have learned along the way but you will have to reach out to Lance (lance@actualcoffee.com) for further information.

So I shot some product photos to be used for some new marketing and social media in 2014 to help consumers become more aware of coffee consumption.

2013 Sun Bowl: Virginia Tech vs UCLA

NCAA Football: Sun Bowl-Virginia Tech vs UCLA

College football games are getting a little out of hand, there are currently 35 bowl games where 70 teams can play in. There are only 119 Division I NCAA Football teams. I enjoy covering bowl games especially teams, I don’t cover regularly. One reason, I was sent out to El Paso was to get good coverage of the following players who will be moving onto the NFL.

Louisville Cardinals at Cincinnati Bearcats

NCAA Football: Louisville at Cincinnati

Teddy Bridgewater is considered the most pro-ready among the draft-eligible quarterbacks, he threw for 255 yards and three TD passes; two of the scoring tosses came in a six-minute span in the fourth quarter in which Bridgewater took over and showed why NFL teams covet his talents.

I also learned last night he is one of the most humble college athletes I have been able to cover. He is extremely close with his mother who is hugging him in the picture above.

Vacation Day 1 & 2

Finally a vacation! I have basically worked for the last two years with out taking a vacation and the time has finally come! Stacy and I headed to Marco Island, FL to spend 10 days in the sun! I have been going to Marco Island where my grandparents own a condo since I was a little kid.

We arrived in Florida on Monday morning and Stacy wanted to go to a few outlet malls to do a little shopping. Before heading to Marco Island we stopped in Naples, FL to see the suset! Above, the sunset with the Naples Pier to the left.

All-Access: Toledo Rocket Football

I have been home from London for a day and a half and I was itching to shoot again. After texting my buddy who is the equipment manager for the football team where I use to be a kicker and he telling me it was their last two-a-day practice on Wednesday, I knew it would be a good opportunity to shoot!

Before I left for London I met with newly appointed head coach Matt Campbell, who was on staff when I was a kicker at Toledo. He had always supported my work and my work ethic, so I pitched him an idea about doing an all-access photo blog of the 2012 camp. Where potential recruits and fans could log on everyday and view pictures. Obviously going to London, I didn’t get a chance to do that so I am going to try and make up for lost time and hit up a few practice when I am home to make some really good images. Show what goes on during camp and practice that the public might not be able to see!

Blurs and Tilt-Shifts

I have been in London for twenty days now and my creativity has hit a wall, just when I think I have gotten a good night sleep I fall a sleep on the bus on the way to my next assignment. August 7th was a grind. I had another three shoots in three different venues. Luckily they were all inside of Olympic Park this time which helped.

I started out the day by shooting Brazil vs Norway women’s handball. My editor kept telling me how awesome of a sport it is to shoot. He assigned me to shoot a match just to make some artsy pictures. When I arrived at the venue I was fascinated with the sport. It was a combination between soccer, hockey and basketball. Two of the three sports I absolutely hate shooting but it made for some interesting pictures.
