For those who are frequent readers of my blog and follow me on Facebook and Instagram know that I am around hot air balloons a lot. There is just something so magical about hot air balloons that I just can’t describe.
Four weeks ago local balloonist Jake Tyler contacted me about being part of a committee to bring the Glass City Ballon Race to life! We spent weeks and hours contacting companies for sponsorships and donations and in a very short time we put together a great event!
I am a huge aviation geek, from hot air balloons, small air crafts, drones and even the Goodyear Blimp. In 2015, I went up in the Goodyear Blimp for the Daytona 500 for almost 8 hours and I was hooked! After spending that much time in an aircraft that is extremely cramped you learn just about everything you possibly can about the aircraft from the amazing pilot.
I have stayed in touch with the public relations team for Goodyear since then. I was suppose to go up for the NASCAR Miami race, but due to bad weather it never happened. Fast forward to January of this year, I was suppose to travel to Akron where the Goodyear Blimp is built to get a sneak peak of the construction, but I was out of town. A few weeks ago, I got an email inviting me to a VIP event to come check out the recently finished Wingfoot 2 Zeppelin Goodyear Blimp. This is the second style of the Zeppelin built in Akron.
Finally getting caught up on some blogs. Here are my favorite images from the 2015 Balloon Festival. As many of you may know, I am around hot air balloons a lot because a few friends in the area own them so I am always out crewing and taking pictures of them for their promotion.
I was offered the opportunity to go for a ride in the Goodyear Blimp during an off day from shooting NASCAR practice at the track. But just my luck, due to high winds my flight was canceled. I was even reschedule for a few days later and it was again cancelled. But the PR guys at Goodyear still allowed me to shoot some cool images of the blimp while it was on the ground.
I have one more opportunity to go up so we shall see!
Many of you may know that I have a little obsession with hot air balloons, if you have followed my blog, facebook page or Instagram account you have seen photos of other balloons. After getting home from the LeBron James Welcome Home Party around 12am. I had a 5am wake up call to head down to Findlay for the Findlay Hot Air Ballon Festival.
The morning light made for some beautiful pictures of the unique and different hot air balloons.
